You claim that people who buy homes through the NACA program are all “people who could not afford these homes in the first place.” Please share what evidence you have of your claim that they can’t afford their home. The fact is that the NACA program is designed to make sure that the homeowner gets a mortgage they CAN legitimately afford at a fixed, fair interest rate for the 30-year life of the loan. No outrageously high adjustable rates, pick-a-pay or interest-only options, no expensive and unnecessary mortgage insurance. We do this by making sure that any past issues regarding credit have been resolved or adequately explained, the payment is fully amortized including taxes and insurance and that the home undergoes a thorough inspection prior to sale so that there are no unplanned repair or maintenance issues for years to come. This is why the delinquency rate on NACA mortgages is a tiny fraction of the national rate. As one of my colleagues recently said in a TV interview, “the people who are in trouble with their loans in this market don't have our loans.”

As such, our Purchase program has thousands of applicants all over the country and each of our Mortgage Consultants carries a heavy caseload. Combined with the fact that the NACA program is designed to make sure things are done the right way instead of the hurried and haphazard way that created the mortgage bubble to begin with, the process can be slow. Some people do get impatient and start complaining. But I’ve never heard of anyone complain about the tens of thousands of dollars they save over the life of the loan once they are in their new home. Patience is extremely valuable in this process. Literally.

Even so, we are continually looking for new ways of making the process more efficient. Many of our offices are expanding their staff size, but training and licensing requirements make that anything but an overnight process. We have also implemented a remote counseling program to help reduce the backlog in our busiest offices but even that will take time to help break up the log jam appreciably.

The Home Save program is equally as overburdened. Almost without exception, very person who comes to the Home Save program has tried and failed on their own to work with their bank to get a modification. Yet our program has an 80% success rate because of NACA’s 24-year history of relentless activism led by Bruce Marks and the legally binding agreements with the major lenders resulting from that advocacy.

If you wish to be critical of the supporters we have in the political arena, you will have to include not just Barney Frank, but Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles, Rep. Corrine Brown and former Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida and Rep. Marcia Fudge of Ohio among others. The list even includes Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, who stood beside and spoke on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial along with Dr. King when he delivered the “I Have A Dream” speech on August 28, 1963.

Were the nation’s mortgage process and especially the current mortgage crisis already not so heavily politicized, we wouldn’t have to be concerned with having supporters in the halls of Congress and in other elected positions.

The bottom line is that any individual or group of individuals trying to make a real difference and benefit others will always face opposition, almost always from the unenlightened. NACA has never claimed to be perfect, but both our Purchase and Home Save programs DO WORK. And I challenge you to look any NACA staff member in the eye and claim they “do not give a rip about the people they are supposedly helping.” Take the time to learn about our people who spend weeks at a time away from their own homes and families to travel the country helping other families in danger of losing their homes through no fault of their own, and the counselors who routinely put in 12 to 14 hour days to help others buy a home without falling victim to the financial predators who caused the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression and you’ll see what NACA is really all about.

I never said I was bothered with the quote. While there are safety nets for the poor those same safety nets are getting smaller and one has to go through a number of things before you fall on them. I thought the original point of your post was that when Tavis Smiley criticizes Pres. Obama about the poor he's considered a "hater" while when he criticizes Mitt Romney about the poor he is lauded.

Jakes did nothing wrong. He was just trying to deliver a message to encourage the people. IfI confide in someone I dont expect them to make my problems public. How do you know Jakes did not try and help him behind the scenes

"I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I'll fix it. I'm not concerned about the very rich. They're doing just fine. I'm concerned about the very heart of America, the 90-95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling," Romney said.
Okay now honestly, when you look at the ENTIRE quote, what about this quote bothers you?

I understand where you're coming from. Then again, President Obama never explicitly said he wasn't concerned about the very poor because of safety nets.

You aren't a therapist. One situation is not the all situations. Who guided Racine in her parenting after the baby was born? Where you there each and every morning and night with her and her son?

Perhaps her son is acting out simply because his father was a complete failure and his mother just did the best she could. If he is abusive, then someone should do an intervention before he is arrested for murder.

If any institution, agency or individual urged women to remain chaste/virgins until they married, they would be laughed out of the room, humiliated, insulted and the list goes on. However, most women know that if they had limited their sexual activities with someone responsible, someone they were had taken the time to know and be married to there would be a small number of single mothers. Of course, young men would have to be socialized and trained to not have sex with anything that moves, to be morally responsible and to understand what someone else does and says is just that -- someone else claiming to do this or that.

One of our greatest issues is that most African Americans live a desire based lifestyle. For whatever reasons, very few of us have patience, plan ahead (way ahead) and regard our sexuality on a high level. Society, 'The Man", Racism, whatever has given most of us permission to be immoral less than human beings where women can dress but be naked, men can have numerous children without the benefit of marriage, anyone can sing or rhyme about their sexual preferences, activities and escapades and it is ok.

How are you. I am African- (Actually Nigerian-) American. I am also craving this idea of yours. I have been on this for quite some years now. I even attended cosmetology school and got my license thinking I'd find the secret. As you can tell, I haven't. Now my question is this... Did you get your store going? How did you go about it. I am located in Providence, RI and so will my store when it comes up in March by the grace of God. Please contact me, I'd really appreciate all of your help. Thanks

Well every one isn't so fortunate to have gone to college and get a good job. Yes I went to college after high school and graduated however I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth and my parents could not afford to send me to school. I have over 100K in student loans although I have a master degree now. I was not educated about credit and made mistakes. I am correcting that now by getting more educated about credit and budgeting. So please don't go there stating the government shouldn't have programs. I am not using the program for them to give me money but to educate me on how to do it. Keep in mind because your world is perfect, this is the REAL world. It’s far from perfect. I am pretty sure everything isn’t so GOOD for you with your front.
