Rising unemployment, poverty, home loss due to foreclosure, etc. all have been hot topics amongst many Black commentators and politicians. With the exception of the Congressional Black Caucus recently calling out Obama on some of these issues, most of these talking heads are careful to blame “the government”, not Obama. Under Bush of course, Bush and the government were two faces of the same devil.
While poll after poll is showing how voters of all political backgrounds are really not feeling Obama these days, the recent Gallup poll shows that support for Obama in the Black community has actually gone up from 90% to 91%.
Complaining about the economy, the loss of jobs, foreclosures all while praising Obama for his “good work” is nothing more than a self-made prison we choose to make our home. We know good and doggone well how quick we have been under other Presidents to blame the man in the front office for the economy, no matter how long he was in office. The translation of all of this is quite simple: “I’m not going to be a hater.” From Facebook to the blogosphere, what I have noticed from my Black family is that anytime one of them does feel a momentary sense of boldness, they will always start off their criticism of Obama by saying “I’m not hating on the man or anything, but…” My thought to this is always “You never had to curb your criticism on the same issues under Bush or any other President. So why do it now?”
We have too many Black folks in prison already. Why increase the prison population by choosing to construct and live in these self-made social prisons? Break yourself free and tell the truth.
