All this past weekend various news outlets tried desperately to link the anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing to the outrage being displayed in various Tea Parties all across the nation.

Yesterday, as thousands of Second Amendment rights activists gathered all across the nation to stand up for the basic right to bear arms in this country, the tone I saw on cable news was “Be afraid! Be very afraid. Any one of these guys could be the next Timothy McVeigh.”

But here is what I don’t understand. About 168 people died on that fateful day in Oklahoma City. Just this past December, the city of Chicago celebrated the fact that the homicide rate (mostly Black and Hispanic people killing each other) was DOWN 11% to 453 killings. That is just ONE American city.

Yet, 168 people die by explosion in America’s heartland and now we make it a point to remember the anniversary EVERY YEAR. Are we to assume that all the Black and Hispanic people who were shot not worth the remembrance? Or do we just wait for the next White man with a gun to just say something about Black folks and Obama?

When White men with guns begin terrorizing everyday Americans, then I will be concerned. Until then, who in the media and blogosphere has the courage to stop with the scare tactics and talk about the real in-house terrorists?

In the meantime, mainstream media has once again shown who they value the most. And is isn’t the poor Black, Hispanic, etc. folks who are getting shot up every day in our own cities.

So much for their “anniversary”.
