zz07632b4eAcross this nation, folks from various points of the political map are getting fed up with the reckless spending. What really impresses me with all of these protests is that it is truly being fueled by the people, and not some 501(c)(3). I was glad to hear someone on the radio yesterday say exactly what I said to myself the other day: “Folks like Newt Gingrich needs to go sit down somewhere.” Both parties have failed us on this issue and politicians from days gone by who did little to address this issue during their time in office need to step to the side.

As expected, the Obama fan club feels the need to protect their appointed one from such “distractions” by trotting out their one-trick ponies. Charges of racism is certainly one of them. But the biggest one had to come straight from Washington itself. The Department of Homeland Security’s report on “Rightwing Extremism” (a report that essentially lumps white supremacists and bigots with those of us who wish to display our discontent with the government without the usage of violence). The timing of this report is also more than just a coincidence as it was released on the eve of these tax protests.

I see White people

The first thing the racially obsessed in this country are going to notice is the sea of White faces that will be in the majority at these protests. Based on that fact and that fact alone, they would want you to believe that somehow Blacks and other people of color are being excluded (this goes right along with their ideological script: Right=Racist). However, what they will never address is something that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said recently to a group of Morehouse students. In short, financial literacy is one of the biggest hurdles facing Black Americans, not better controls to level the economic playing field.

As I asked in the post right before this one regarding the Black blogosphere, “How many finance blogs do you know of that deal with personal investing on a regular basis? ” I’ll take it another step further. During the recent stimulus bill debate, how many Black blogs/websites actually delved into details the stimulus bill BEYOND THE TALKING POINTS ISSUED BY THE WHITE HOUSE? How many of our sites showed a willingness to address the many organizations and pet projects that received millions who have a long history of wasteful spending?  How many showed a willingness to take Obama to task for not keeping his promise on wasteful spending? It was HE who set the bar for himself on this issue.

“The system is broken. We can no longer accept a process that doles out earmarks based on a member of Congress’ seniority, rather than the merit of the project. We can no longer accept an earmarks process that has become so complicated to navigate that a municipality or non-profit group has to hire high-priced D.C. lobbyists to do it. And we can no longer accept an earmarks process in which many of the projects being funded fail to address the real needs of our country.” (Statement made from then Senator Barack Obama)

Then later he defends these pet projects and signs the stimulus bill
.

Those sea of White faces has nothing to do with racism. Instead, it is a direct reflection of what Bernanke touched on with those Morehouse students. If financial literacy is a problem just on the home front, it is also going to be a problem when it comes to economics on a national scale. Sadly, the call to loyalty to Obama has also been coupled with a call to willing ignorance, especially when it comes to the economic health of our nation.

One of the straw man arguments that have been making the rounds on the days leading up to these protests is “Where were these folks when Bush was throwing throwing money around?” If the people who are asking this question really wanted to know the answer (and they don’t), they would have found front line conservatives like Michelle Malkin, Larry Elder, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Medved, Michael Savage and a slew of others using their voice in the media to protest the reckless economic actions of Bush. As for me, I also used my voice here on this site to speak out against Bush’s actions. Here is just a sample.

Under Bush Congress passed a bill full of earmarks. Bush signed it.
Congress holds its annual white elephant party

I also posted an article that showed exactly how bailout money under Bush was making it way back into the hands of his buddies in high places. Incidentally, this is what prompted me to start the “Follow the money” category on this site.

Following The Money

In this post, I compared Bush and Congress to a classic Twilight Zone episode where the nations of the world have only hours to decipher a book given to them by aliens.

To Serve Man

In addition to these post, you will find me continuing my discontent with how Bush abandoned his physical responsible claims. I especially became enraged when he admitted it in one of his last interviews as President.

zz2000919cBut alas, Bush is no longer President. Obama is now our Commander in Chief and he is continuing the same failed policies. Both Bush and Obama threw billions of dollars to GM in an effort to “save it”. Today, GM is considering bankruptcy. There is a DIRECT correlation between these wasted dollars and the lack of money public schools that do work could be using to buy things like updated books, computers, etc. Same can be applied to other social programs out there that do work. But those in our society who are not financially literate, defending Obama from all criticism is their only mission.

I will not be attending any of the tea party protests today due to commitments that cannot be passed on to someone else. However, I hope that my series of posts that pointed out the wastefulness of the recent stimulus bill, auto and bank bailouts under Bush and web links to great websites like taxfoundation.org that explains the whole issue of taxes and how they are being spent will in some small way encourage more people to know that they do not have to wallow in ignorance when it comes to OUR money.
