““If I get a $4,000 benefit for hiring you and I pay you $80,000 and you’re going to sit at your desk and do nothing because there’s nothing to do,” said Marty Regalia, chief economist of the United States Chamber of Commerce, “then the businesses aren’t going to hire you.” (Source)
Much the support that can be seen regarding Obama’s second plan (the Stimulis was the first one) in
the Black part of cyberspace is not rooted in any basic knowledge of the marketplace. Want proof? Why then are most of the comments and commentary (and I have spent a lot of time reading them–probably too much) are inflammatory towards the Tea Party and the GOP but no one I have seen can tell me what exactly they like about the plan? Here is one comment I made the other day in response to what I have been seeing.
“The more y’all hype up the GOP/Tea Party, the more you are underscoring the criticism that suggest Obama is not a strong leader. Obama is the President of the United States (leader of the free world). The Senate is controlled by Democrats. Yet most people on this comment string only want to focus on …the Tea Party??? GOP??? Obama is not hamstrung by the GOP. Obama is doing EXACTLY what he wants and folks who can’t handle it or explain it are looking for anybody and everything to demonize to divert from the unexplainable.”
Most news outlets are having a hard time finding employers who are close to being excited about Obama’s proposal because they understand that demand drives supply. If consumer confidence continues to slide, that has a direct correlation with demand. Demand, in turn spurs supply. The more supply you need, the more employers you need to hire to handle the demand.
Now that’s plain and simple economics, right? So why is the Obama fan base pumping up members of the Tea Party as the boogeymen who somehow has Obama (again, The President of the United States) backed into a corner and completely powerless? Go to some our our most popular Black so-called news sites and you will see commentary after commentary standing in line ready to take a whack at the demonic Tea Party with their fear-mongering criticisms. But with each commentary and comment, almost none of them will talk about A) why the nearly trillion-dollar stimulus failed to “stimulate” the economy, and B) without copying and pasting talking points emailed to them from the White House, how exactly these proposals are going to make a significant dent in the growing Black unemployment rate? You will not see any of those explanations. Instead, you will see commentators droning on about how he is just one man and can’t do anything, the Tea Party is holding the most powerful man on the planet hostage, and my favorite “If you think you are so bad, where is your economic plan (As if they would really read it if you produced a plan)?”
I write like this because I want people to get mad enough to stop with the predictable, garden variety criticisms we put out there when we can’t explain the unexplainable. There are a slew of factors that are currently affecting the market right now. Instead of placing most of our frustrations on some idiot with a protest sign dissing the president, how about taking some time out to learn how the marketplace works? There is not one Black or White savior Washington can burp out every 4 years who can change the economy of the United States on just one speech. Ask questions. Demand results. The state of Black America does not rest on the laurels of Obama. But our willing ignorance in the name of “protecting our president from all haters” does nothing to improve our condition. In fact, it makes us look straight up dumb! And we are better than that.
Straight up TRUTH from the marketplace
