In this “shocking” video (as blackvoices describes), Sunday Best contestant Le’Andria admits to showing up drunk in several public places due to the various circumstances that happened in her life.

The actual tradition of showing up to church dressed in your “Sunday best” has no roots whatsoever in the Bible. Instead, it was a tradition birthed out of class warfare. The wealthy who attended churches wanted to be seen as above the poor in the house of God. You can read all about it here.

So when we get down to it, putting on your Sunday best is rooted in nothing more than covering up. Covering up the fact that at the end of the day, we are people who are in need of an incorruptible God.

You will also never find that paid singers and worship leaders did not originate in the Bible or the early church. This was a tradition that originated in Greco-Roman culture. So just with both historical factoids alone, there is absolutely no biblical basis for this show. If anything, they are just a carbon copy of all the other shows out there where thousands compete for fame and fortune (something that Jesus himself never sought during his ministry here on the earth).

Le’Andria’s problem isn’t that she has problems (because we all have them). Her problem is that she sought a potentially lethal means to deal with them. In the meantime, she still continues to go place to place as a “minister for the Lord” when she should put the mic down and get the help that she really needs. Instead, she is still going strong and giving advice in the latest edition of Essence magazine.
Le’Andria is just one of many professional Christian singers out there who cannot hide their personal demons behind “keeping it real”. Sadly, she has trapped herself in an industry whose main concern is making money. And I am talking about the Christian music industry.
