One of my very first posts in 2009 had to do with the 500th homicide victim in Chicago back in 2008, Kermit Delashment. I had tried several times to nail down an interview with the parents, but it just did not work out. Kermit’s aunt has touched bases with me from time to time and this is what she just recently sent to me.

“It has been almost one year since the death of my nephew Kermit Royal DeLashment. I am still hurt from the time it occurred until now. There has not been any closure. The code of silence in the streets of Chicago is the most bizzarre thing I’ve ever heard of. Perhaps if the media can remind individuals of unsolved murders, someone will come forth. I grieve with all the family members and the parents both Kermit Sr. and Michele (mom). Continue to pray for us as we try and live with the death of a loved one snatched away for some unknown reason.”
(Antoinette Linton-Gibbs, aunt of Kermit Delashment)

My original post on Kermit

This was a poem she wrote for her nephew.
