Well, this is not at all suprising. African immigrants are very different culturally from African Americans as we come from very different parts of the world and have very different experiences. If you go to Africa itself you will find far less educated persons because education is not free. Generally, the Africans that come here to America are highly educated and thus instill those same values for education in their children. They come from a place where education is not free so they know not to take it for granted. It’s not fair to complain the group of Africans that are privileged enough to come to America with all AA’s who very from wealthy to poor (and with a fairly large percentage who are poor). If you were to bring Africa’s poor youth here I guarantee you they would not perform as well as their other African peers who came from better socioeconomic backgrounds.

So this must put to rest the conclusion, brought to light because of The Ricci case, that written tests are unfair for Black people because they come from a culture of spoken communication rather than written communication. Maybe that will go down in the dust pan of history along with the idea that, to make it fair, white people should learn how to speak ebonics.
