I’m just starting to get into tone mapping. Here are two pictures I took some time ago. The first was taken back in California and the second one taken in Georgia.

We made it, y’all! It’s Friday. No matter how crummy this week has been for some of you, you made it this far. If you have to work on the weekend, again…you made it to see another day. Be thankful.

“A Week With My Father,’ a docu-reality television show, will help bring hope and healing to families by finding an absent father and introducing him to his adult son. The estranged men will hang out for one week, enjoying targeted activities from something as mundane as bowling to extreme activities such as supercross. The activities are all about what was missed and an opportunity to showcase unknown abilities a father or a son may possess. Hopefully, the time spent together will help them get to know each other and in the end bring about forgiveness, reconciliation and the start of a new relationship. The show will inform the viewing audience of the extent of the problem and help them understand the personal hardships (in some cases) both fathers and sons have endured as a result of being separated from one another. “A Week With My Father” seeks to educate the viewing audience.”

It’s been a long week for me. Enjoy these pictures I took last weekend while with a walk with my favorite people in the world: my family.

In case you did not know, I am the administrator of the African American Photographer’s group on Flickr. We now have over 800 members and we continue to attract some great photographers from all around. While some folks try to make the attempt, I have been able to keep all the stank nudity shots away (this was a problem when I first became admin) making the group safe for all ages. And besides, that stuff belongs on media take out.

Nearly 25 years after Hollywood Shuffle, what are your thoughts on the state of Black films and the roles for African Americans in mainstream movies?

Well, you know, I think it’s the best of times and it’s the worst of times… You do see more African Americans in roles that are nontraditional, but then we don’t have as many original stories. And so you take some away. You give and you take away. So when it’s all said and done, we don’t have as many personal stories. We have more big screen artists of color blended into the blockbusters, but we still don’t have our personal… We just need more balance of the personal stories.

In other news, Bounce TV? As I have predicted over and over again…more recycled shows and from the past.

“But Duane, they are just starting out. Give them a break.”

But these are the same actions of most tried and failed black channels. BET was the only one of kind which makes them the exception. TV One is also the exception because they already had a base with Radio One. As for Black Family Channel, Urban America TV, Black Television News Channel (which I don’t think ever launched). Unless they have original programing in the mix FROM JUMP, they are doing nothing but repeating the same mistakes of the past. Add that to the fact that they placed a greater emphasis on broadcast television and not the emerging Internet-based television market.

To start things off, let’s just deal with the above. If you are a Christian, do you have any issues with this proclamation? In the meantime, check out part 1 of a documentary that I just found on Youtube.

“If we search YouTube carefully we see Swedish and Belgian youths, Crip walking, and youths in Switzerland sagging their pants with oversized hoodies and NY baseball caps on, the Boston Celtics’ Paul Pierce playing basketball in China and hip-hop fashions worn in the streets of Japan; why wouldn’t every African-American filmmaker with a Hollywood contract demand that his or her foreign licensing rights be respected? Why aren’t all African-American independent filmmakers making sure that the DVD’s of their films contain at least two different foreign language subtitle tracks or at least one foreign language voice dub track? Why? I believe that the destructive power of the lie that African-American films have little to no international market appeal takes advantage of African-American mentalities that have been shaped by 400 years of slavery’s oppression. That is to say that the lie gains its power and is often accepted as true because of the way the lasting legacy of slavery has shaped our mentalities and curtailed the expectations we associate with our racial identity. But the most persuasive tool that seduces us to accept the lie that African-American films have little to no international market appeal is that the coveted Hollywood Contract is a symbol of status and division among African-American filmmakers.” (Andre Seewood, author of SLAVE CINEMA: The Crisis of the African-American in Film) Read the rest of his article here. I bike and jog on a daily basis and I had a bit of a scare the other day as I began to overheat in a cold shower. We are in a bit of a heat wave down here in the ATL, so please be careful out there.
