Through a very exhaustive search one night for some personal bible study, I came across Voddie Baucham’s website. I like a lot of what he had to say and even ordered a couple of his podcasts. I think the biggest thing that impressed me about him was that strengthening families seems to me more important to his ministry than building the next megachurch. Not only does he homeschool, but many folks in his church also homeschool their children. Another thing that stuck out to me was that (if my memory serves me correctly) they do NOT send their kids to a “children’s church” during service. The thought behind that is while it may get a little disruptive, the word of God must be taught in a way that is understandable by the whole family. On a personal note, the one thing I have learned from our kids is that if we treat and talk to them as adults, they typical make decisions like adults.

Anyway, here is a excerpt from FDM’s website about Baucham:

His blend of sound biblical exposition, cultural and philosophical insight, engaging style and substance makes him truly unique among the many voices attempting to decipher the current cultural and family crisis.

FDF is not as much a parenting or marriage conference as it is a Bible conference. Come and hear what the Bible has to say about the issues you and your family face on a daily basis. Dr. Baucham is not a marriage expert. He is just a Bible teacher whose family has been transformed by the application of biblical principles. He currently serves as Pastor of Preaching at Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, TX.

More importantly, the Baucham family has overcome a legacy of failed marriages, broken homes and fatherlessness to become a vibrant, thriving example of the redemptive power of God.” (more…)

He said that out of 25 marriages in his family, 22 of them ended in divorce.
