(mediatakeout.com) Last night was a pretty rough one for R&B legend Anita Baker. MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Anita gave a free concert last night in Brooklyn that was less than crowd pleasing.

One concertgoer tells MediaTakeOut.com, “The concert is WHACK. She [was] either talking or humming through the entire performance. I swear she [was] either drunk or tired.”

And the fans weren’t the only ones to notice that something was off with Anita’s performance. At one point, the Grammy award winning singer recognized it herself. In an attempt to hold their attention, Anita asked the audience to bear with her because, as she put it, she was “old and tired.”

But the audience had very little patience last night. As the night progressed, people began to leave the concert in droves. (more…)

Oh well, there is always her old CD’s.

I usually frequent the free concerts in Wingate Park, Brooklyn and I made it a point to NOT see Anita Baker. I saw her at Jones Beach Theatre years back and the discription that was given in this article was EXACTLY what I had paid money to see. Her attitude was as if she was doing the audience a favor for being there. She was humming tones to the sound engineer to ensure that the tone was to her liking (and it never was :) . I remember seeing Heather Headley perform and she sang through the poor equalization of her voice and soon as a musical interlude was played in her set, she drilled the sound engineer an asshole. The point here is her focus was on the audience. She was performing for us, not herself. Anita Baker is one incredibly self-absorbed performer. She is a great studio musician and that’s where she should stay.
