ISTANBUL (BP)–In a gruesome assault against Turkey’s tiny Christian community, five young Muslim Turks entered a Christian publishing office in the southeastern province of Malatya April 18 and slit the throats of the three Protestant Christians present.

Two of the victims, Necati Aydin, 36, and Ugur Yuksel, 32, were Turkish converts from Islam. The third man, Tilmann Geske, 46, was a German citizen.

The Turkish press reported that four of the five young men, all 19 to 20 years of age, admitted during initial interrogations that they were motivated by both “nationalist and religious feelings.”

“We did this for our country,” an identical note in the pockets of all five young men read, Channel D television station reported. “They are attacking our religion.”

According to the Hurriyet newspaper, one of the suspects declared during police questioning, “We didn’t do this for ourselves. We did it for our religion. May this be a lesson to the enemies of religion.” (more…)

Some additional details

“He had scores of knife cuts on his thighs, his testicles, his rectum, and his back,” Ugras said. “His fingers were sliced to the bone.

“It is obvious that these wounds had been inflicted to torture him,” he said. (source)

Once again, where are all the global protests by Christians and were are the apologies from the Muslim community?

that’s like asking why white people don’t globally protest when non-white people attack them. and the answer is that christians are the global majority. that doesn’t make what happened right, but it’s not an example of the kind of global opression that you’re comparing it to.

for that matter, i don’t think any “nation” or “group” or “religion” should have to apologize as a whole for the acts of individuals if said acts are not sanctioned by the whole.

Huh? What are you talking about?

What is your deal with this Muslims against Christians angle? At first I thought you were just pointing out bits of info that didn’t kit main stream. But as I sit and reflect it seems as though you have a bias against Muslims. This is a horrible act no matter what the religion or the reason the people did it. If you want to report on something report on how often Christians kill other Christians.

i’m talking about the lengthy (okay, maybe not “lengthy,” but lengthy for me) response i posted to this yesterday…the auto-response was that it was awaiting approval…
