(AP) MEMPHIS  If current demographic trends hold, Memphis could become the country's first large metropolitan area with a majority black population, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.
Census Bureau estimates from 2005 show the non-Hispanic white population in the eight-county Memphis metro area dipped below 50 percent for the first time  to 622,235 residents, or 49.4 percent of the area's 1,260,905 residents.
