While listening to the radio today (a major metropolitan news station), I heard an excerpt from comedian Mike Epps’ upcoming T.V. special:
“I have so many kids that when I drive through the ‘hood, I just wave”
–followed by laughter
If you are not black, you better not get caught repeating this.

The sad thing is that I wish this were just a joke. But all too many men have too many children by all women of the neighborhood. I once heard my husband friend refer to me as a “baby momma”. After using some of the nastier words in my vocabulary he understood the difference between me and a baby momma.

I like your fire Saudia and I understand the offense taken too many of our men and women are settling for not being responsible for their actions. My cousin is on the verge of losing his three children because he refuses to try to provide a better environment for his family amongst other things. When I hear from my lady “Im pregnant all of my negatives go out the window, not that I’m not trying to rid myself of negative qualities but at that point life will ast forward ten to twenty times for me and it becomes all about raising my children in the proper environment which will help them grow into holding themselves accountable

I feel too many of us are reverting back to a slave type mentality. Although, our brothers and sisters in slavery were stopped from learning, too many of us think it’s “White” to learn. Also, during slavery, women were forced to bear children out of wedlock. These women bore the burden of their own society, but some of our people today have reverted back to making babies, without the man being around. In slavery times, the man was forced from his family or used to breed “strong healthy bucks or pickaninnies”. Today, it seems as some of us think it’s okay to make babies and not raise them properly. If Blacks in America think it’s “White” to have respect for oneself and their family, then they haven’t read their history nor do they really know what being a real person of African ancestry is about.
