Tama Broadcasting Inc. is hoping to bring Florida’s black community a little closer by offering something it has never had before: a statewide newspaper.
Charles Cherry II and his brother, Glenn, plan to launch a 100,000-circulation weekly in January that will provide news, sports and commentary to blacks throughout the state. The state has more than 2.59 million blacks.
The paper will be called The Florida Courier.
“It will prepare this community toward some positive solutions to its problems,” said Glenn Cherry, president/CEO of Tampa-based Tama Broadcasting Inc., the state’s largest black-owned media company. Tama’s holdings include The Daytona Times, another newspaper and nine radio stations. (more…)

#Emphasize black success
#Invest in quality (no matter what, invest in great writers)
#Writers should be on top of EVERY major story in Florida
#Have a serious Internet presence (use a blog-type format to foster interaction from readers)
#Do a weekly podcast.

This is a great idea and I wish you the best. Stay positive and highlight the positive aspects of the community. Establish a web presence and allow for feedbak by the community. Hire some college student journalists and give them a chance to perfect their craft and gain practical experiences.
