“Hilary Benn, Britain’s international development secretary, said: “If Africa is to achieve the 7% growth necessary to meet the key Millennium Development Goals of halving the number of people in poverty by 2015, the business environment must improve.”

Benn said businesses still faced numerous obstacles on the continent, including excessive regulation and corruption, as well as the perception that Africa was not a good place to do business because of security, health and infrastructure problems.

The facility is aimed at helping create more business-friendly policies, laws and regulations across Africa, and at strengthening the institutions that enable these to be administered. (more…)
