The stores that our family frequent when shopping for healthy food for the family are:

Trader Joes

Henry’s

Whole Foods

Wild Oats (parent of Henry’s)

The way I made this list is the order that we usally follow. Trader Joes is by far our most favorite because of price. Henry’s is a strong second in terms of price in our book. As for the other two, great selection but just a tad bit pricey for our family.

I would not recommend Trader Joes for produce and most meats because they have a small selection and it can be a little pricey. On the other hand Henry’s has been good with produce thus far. Whole Foods and Wild Oats have the best hot take-out foods in my opinion (especially for those quick lunch breaks). Healthy meat selections are great.

You do not have to do all your grocery shopping at these stores, just start off small (like just frozen foods). Try out some chicken nuggets made from free range chickens. How about some corn flakes without the corn syrup?

My advice? Take the time to shop some of these stores and see what you could get to replace some of the unhealthy staples you purchase from the traditional grocery stores in your area.

Come on, try it!

  1. Johnnie Says:

In the Beltsville, College Park, Columbia areas of Maryland I shop for organics and health food at two places, mainly:

    MOM (My Organic Market), and

    David’s Natural Market

David’s is spectacular! MOM is smaller but much more conveniently located for me.
