Canada’s first black governor general

OTTAWA (CP) – Prime Minister Paul Martin has formally announced the appointment of Michaelle Jean, a Haitian-born television journalist based in Quebec, as the next governor general.

Jean, 48, one of the youngest people ever named to the vice-regal job, will be Canada’s first black governor general. (more…)
