This is one of those topics where I personally saw MAJOR improvement to my overall health.

Most of the treats that we consume on a daily basis consist of white sugar. When I reduced the amount of white sugar in my diet, I immediately saw a difference in my body weight. Not only that, I found that I did not catch colds as often. One of the major drawbacks of white, processed sugars is that IT IS PROCESSED!

When digested, white sugar weakens your immune system. Have you ever noticed that in the wintertime, colds are very common? Well, believe it or not, cold weather has very little to with it.

During the winter months, most people increase their consumption of sweets (treats around the office, holidays, etc.). While we are snacking away, are immune system grows weaker and weaker. Here is a list of just some of the negative effects of white sugar:

*Sugar can upset the body’s mineral balance.

*Sugar can contribute to hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, concentration difficulties, and crankiness in children.

*Sugar can contribute to eczema in children.

*Sugar can cause cardiovascular disease.

*Sugar can increase systolic blood pressure.

*Sugar causes food allergies.

*Sugar can cause toxemia during pregnancy.

*Sugar can over stress the pancreas, causing damage.

*Sugar can cause headaches, including migraines.

(more on sugar)

It is believed that refined sugar did not exist anywhere until around A.D. 500. It is about this point where the ill effects of refined sugar were observed. Just think about a society where diabetes did not exist. How about a black community? This was a reality for people prior to 500 A.D.

The pancreas gland was probably not called upon to secret as much insulin in one day of an entire lifetime as it is called upon to secret in nearly every day of a modern post infant lifetime.(excerpt from Sugar Busters: Cut Sugar to Trim Fat)

If you have ever done a study on the various royal families of early Europe, you will find that many of them were overweight, and in some cases contracted diabetes. This was due to the fact that the diet of the privileged in those days included breads that contained refined sugars.

Next: What happens when you eat refined white sugar (in more detail).

Because the sugar topic is so big, I will spend today just talking about sugar.
